Oh yes, it is that season once again.
*cue the sneezing, the wheezing, the TEARS THAT WON’T STOP
True story, sweet Bradley’s allergies are often so bad in this season, that he unashamedly drives/walks around in public with tissues stuffed up his nostrils.
No no, not where it’s hidden. But where the tissues are hanging out of his nose LIKE A CRAZY PERSON.
It’s pathetic and sad.
So with prayer and a dash of knowledge, I’m determined that this will not be his fate this year.
Here’s the thing, I don’t really have allergies. It’s not something that devastates my life like most people I know.
IM SO SORRY I WOULD TAKE IT FROM YOU IF I COULDDDD
And even though it’s not something I deal with, I wanted to understand why this was so so so so bad for other people in my life.
This is what I found out:
North Texas registered the fifth-highest pollen counts in the nation.
IN THE WHOLE ENTIRE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA…
Y’all, people often move to North Texas from out of state, get hit with all the allergies, and end up moving back to where they came from because they just can’t deal.
This is an actual thing.
If you know me at all, you know that I’m very passionate about using natural remedies (as a first choice) to heal and help with any physical challenges.
(Of course, if stronger treatments need to be used, by all means.)
But I do believe with all my heart that there are God-given, natural, non-harmful recipes that can work just as well – if not better!
I’ve used all of these methods on myself (as precautionary) and helped guide Bradley to incorporate them into his daily routine, as well.

First pit stop,
Peppermint Essential Oil
If you do not own a diffuser, RUN and get you one right now! You can find them at your local grocery store, TJ Maxx, Ross, Target, pretty much anywhere nowadays. Diffusing essential oils is one the greatest pleasures in life. Not only does it make your space smell heavenly, it actually does good things for your body?!! And mind!?!!
There are many essential oils you can diffuse/use for allergies. But probably the most talked about and most easily accessible is Peppermint.
My personal favorite (after Peppermint) is a blend of essential oils called Thieves from Young Living. I have found that this certain blend really, really makes a difference in the air quality. I try to diffuse it multiple times a week.
Now, ladies and gentlemen, you cannot get sucked into cute packaging with this one. See how cute this bottle is…
It’s not local honey and it won’t help you!
A product of Brazil and Mexico.
The reason why local honey works is because you’re ingesting local pollen and over time your body may become less sensitive to the pollen.
You have to make sure that you’re reading where it’s coming from. If you have the opportunity to get honey that is within a one hundred mile radius, that would be the best!
But I found one for me,
Good ole Alvarado, Tx.
Dandelion Root Tea
Dandelion has so many healing properties, it is unreal.
It’s a liver cleanser, blood purifier, and diuretic.
It contains fiber, vitamins A, C, and K, calcium, iron, minerals such as magnesium, and potassium.
Now that I know, I’m going to start harvesting the Dandelions that grows in our yard whenever I find it. But you don’t have to do that. This brand of tea is absolutely wonderful. Even if you’re not experiencing allergies, this should be something you try to add to your life.
On to the supplement aisle,
Tumeric + Vitamin C
Don’t even get me started on all the health benefits of Turmeric (otherwise known as Curcumin).
But if you’re more on the lazy side (me most days hehe) and don’t want to put much thought into your allergies regimen, here’s your solution.
After doing a lot of research, I have read on multiple sites that taking a Turmeric supplement is not enough. It has to be taken with a dosage of Vitamin C for the Turmeric absorb into the bloodstream. I’m not sure if this is true, but I don’t want to accidentally waste the supplement. And who couldn’t use an extra dosage of Vitamin C??
(A little secret, I take double the dosage of Vitamin C almost every day and I’m pretty convinced it’s the reason I never catch what’s going around.)
Last but not least,
Getting rid of any dust buildup in carpets or surfaces is vital. Especially if you have a pet!!
It’s important to be vigilant about changing sheets and pillowcases, as well. In the Ballinger household, we change ours every few days because we know we spend a good chunk of our time in bed and want to make sure it’s a clean environment for our bodies to recover.
This has been one of the most important steps in helping with Bradley’s allergies.
After vacuuming, changing the bed, wiping down surfaces, dusting, I diffuse with essential oils.
Now it’s just part of our routine and it always feels nice to relax in a clean environment.
So who do you think will win this battle?
Or the wonderful, powerful remedies that God gave us access to?
I know which one my money is on!!
Know that my heart goes out to you, but that there is a lot you can do to help!
Don’t feel like you’re always going to have to suffer with this.
I pray you find what you’re looking for and that this information was a step in the right direction.
God bless you,
and hopefully, you won’t be hearing so many BLESS YOU’s from now on. 😉
